We’re getting to the end of the year, and this is the perfect time to review everything that we have accomplished in the past months. Some people tend to focus on what didn’t get done or what was not accomplished, and that creates an energy that is not productive, especially if we drag it into the New Year!
They key is to assess ourselves based on what we’ve done, not on what still needs to be done. The way in which we’ll get to what still needs to be done, is by honoring what we’ve done. The other thing to keep in mind, is that we tend to pay attention to what got done or is still pending from a list of “To-Do’s”, but, usually, we don’t pay attention to what got done or created at an inner level – what I like to call the “To Be” list.
So I invite you to look deeper into this, and connect with what got created or accomplished from both perspectives – Inner and Outer. We always have to connect the Inner and the Outer because they’re cause and effect. This applies for positive and not so positive things, makes sense, right?
My suggestion is that you grab pen and paper, look back and make a list of all the things that you accomplished during the year. You can either create 2 columns – one for Inner and the other one for Outer, or you can just dump everything that comes to mind and then mark every accomplishment accordingly with an “I” for Inner or “O” for Outer.
Then, the next step is to look at what you think has been your biggest accomplishment, the one that you consider was your number one greatest accomplishment. If it was an Inner accomplishment, what is/are the Outer accomplishment(s) that was/were related to that Inner achievement? and vice versa - If it was an Outer accomplishment, what is/are the Inner accomplishment(s) that was/were related to that Outer achievement?
And here’s a little piece of advise when it comes to inner work:
We become more aware of what we have created and what needs to shift, when we are willing to ask ourselves “What am I being asked to see and change about myself, based on what I’m seeing right now?”
That will give us clarity to create that which we truly want, and yes, there will be some practical aspects that we need to take care of but, first, we need to look inside.
Based on all this, here are a few simple steps to jump into the New Year playing full out, consciously create what you want to Be, Do, and Have, and live your best life this coming new year:
- Get clear on your intentions for this new year - Based on everything you created up until today, what do you desire to create for yourself and your business or your career over the next 12 months – What are your Inner and Outer intentions? What is non-negotiable? Some examples: Leave a soul-sucking job, create your own business, grow your business, get clear on limiting beliefs that are holding you back, be able to travel more, pay down your debt or increase your income. Here’s a great resource to create new financial intentions and change your relationship with money for good: check out my new 4-Week “Money Breakthrough” online coaching program.
- Get clear on “Why” you want it – Having clarity on “why” you want all this, is going to be your motivation. I recommend that you make a list of all your “Why’s”, print it and keep it at a visible place where you can connect with it on a daily basis. You could review it first thing in the morning and then right before you go to bed. As an example, I’ll share just a few of my “why’s”: to feel financially secure, make a difference and create a ripple effect, be able to give back, feel freedom - just to name a few.
- Get clear on what it will take to create this vision – Which strengths will you need to call upon to create your vision and why? I.e: connect more with your intuition, be more committed to your mission, create a plan and follow through, etc.
- What are some tools or resources you can use that will support you in the realization of these intentions? – some examples: read books that are aligned with what you want to create, sign up for a class, work with a coach to accelerate the results you want to see in your life.
You will not be able to see your intentions materialized if you don’t consciously commit and have the willingness and courage to do what needs to be done and change what needs to be changed. So, my last question for you is: What needs to change so you can FINALLY live on Purpose, get paid for who you came here to be, let youself shine, make a difference, be more joyful, fulfilled, prosperous and live your best life in the next 12 months? - A good resource for you: How to Activate the Power of Intention
Remember, always connect the Inner and Outer and keep present that you’re always making choices in life, whether you’re conscious of them or not.
We always choose expansion or contraction in our lives, and we always choose one to the expense of the other.

Hi, Patricia! What a timely article! I was thinking yesterday about what my greatest accomplishments are so far in 2015 (making a mental list) and comparing them to my big 2014 accomplishments. It’s so different from year to year, but all good stuff! =) Thank you for the wonderful suggestion to write down your accomplishments and place into 2 columns. Great blog post! =)

Great insights and advice. A good reminder for us also to include the inner accomplishments in our ‘what we have achieved list”.

Hello, I was just pondering this idea. In numerology sense this was my year of abundance and it was not what looked like what it should be. Rather it was rearraging the idea of the what into wow, look at all of these incredible accomplishments. Thanks for the beautiful article and lovely reminders of how to approach this in a different manner.

Thank you for this lovely post Patricia! I love the tip on getting clarity about my vision. Sometimes I rush through my vision work just to check it off the box. But without providing clarity - I will be meandering toward my goals.

You and I are definitely on the same wavelength when it comes to the power of intention! Every single intention I set for 2015 has come to fruition - my weekend yoga classes are full, I’m speaking and podcasting, I have 3 bestselling books on Amazon, and I’m promoting to my 3rd degree black belt tomorrow night (so glad the testing period is over!!)
I’m excited to see how my intentions unfold for 2016

Love this post, Patricia - and its focus on what we’ve done well! ~ Every year, I take my clients on a “year-end journey” through a series of questions, looking at the various aspects of our lives. And three of the key questions are, “What went well? What did you learn about yourself that you didn’t know before? How would you like to celebrate these accomplishments and milestones?” ~ Too often, we’re quick to dismiss those finer moments - moving on to the next opportunity to fix or change something. ~ “Celebration” is key in navigating a successful journey. So let’s all give ourselves a big pat on the back!
