In my work, as a Purpose and Business Coach, I talk to a lot of people and hear the common message that they would like to be more successful. But in reality, Success starts when you have clarity of what you want and start achieving what matters most to you, when you’re leading your life with courage and from an authentic place.
Success is not measured by the material possessions we can have or how far up we are on the managerial ladder. Success comes when we live life on our own terms, when we know what we want and we love what we do - when we create our lives from a place of conscious awareness, self-love and responsibility.
We all tend to get stuck in a hamster wheel of habit at some point in our lives. We, sometimes, do things that aren’t good for us and stay in situations in which we shouldn’t, all in the name of comfort and “safety”. But only a few will take action to start making positive changes, despite of the fears that may get triggered.
Here are some of the things that successful people will always do consistently:
- They don’t Quit – They know that perseverance is key and that many times, when they feel like quitting, they’re actually almost there. They always keep in mind why they started it, and then push onward. Their “WHY” is their driving force.
- They don’t see themselves as Victims - Successful people know that they are the creators of their own reality. They make choices instead of excuses. They are accountable for their own life, career, relationships, health, etc.
- They are Action Takers – They don’t believe in “someday” or leaving things on the backburner. Successful people set goals and take bold actions towards their visions, because they know this will bring growth and expansion in their lives.
- They don’t resist change – Successful people are flexible, go with the flow and embrace change.
- They are aware of their worth – They value and appreciate themselves, they’re aware of their uniqueness and the value that they bring to the table.
- They honor themselves – They are clear on their values, mission, and have well-defined boundaries, but it doesn’t mean that they only think of themselves.
- They invest in themselves – They know that investing money, time and energy on their growth will pay off – for themselves and those around them. Successful people don’t make excuses and don’t put other people’s needs ahead of theirs – they know they are worth it!
Successful people are curious, creative, respectful, competent and persistent. They know that the results they get are in proportion to their commitment and the effort they put in.
I invite you step up into your greatness so you can shine your light, and boldly, take action towards living a bigger, fuller and more successful life - while you become an inspiration to those around every day.

I really think it all comes down to your WHY. I have quit things that no longer serve my WHY. I have changed my morning routine because of my WHY. I am living my WHY every day and that has made all the difference in my life

I agree with you Peggy, it all comes down to our WHY!

If people are honest about where they fall on the list of 7 traits, they can correct what’s holding them back. Thanks for making it easy to see where we are on track and where we can be more of who we are. Sharing!

Love this Patricia and the 7 steps to success is so paramount. Especially if along the way we hit a wall or perhaps run into a few “NO’s”. It took Thomas Edison 2000 times with the lightbulb! If he had given up where would all be!
Patricia Young says
Thanks Martha! yes, perseverence and believing in your vision are key!

Fabulous blog post, Patricia! ~ It invites us all into our own definition of what it means to be “successful.” You hit the nail on the head when you said, “Success comes when we live life on our own terms.” ~ Too many people are living their lives based on someone else’s terms - which often leads to feeling like a “victim of circumstances.” ~ Once we can define what it means to live life on our terms, we’re already halfway there - on a road toward “our” success.

Thanks Tina! I agree, we have to get clear on what “living life on our own terms” means to us and start living from that place!
